Well, I can’t quite believe it, but it’s officially one year since I launched Diary of an #Eventprof, and there’s no post that’s more fitting than one that tells how I celebrated the New Year and welcomed in 2016 just a few weeks ago!
Unbelievably I’ve lived in London 12 years, and up until the 31st December 2015, I’m ashamed to say, I’d never once visited central London to take in the fireworks, and had only once watched them on TV!
So when I received an invitation to enjoy New Years Eve at 8 Northumberland Avenue at their ‘A Vintage Affair’ Gala I was delighted, especially bearing in mind with a little one on the way it would probably be the last time Mr Moon and I would be leaving our home on New Years Eve for a very long time!
After arriving at 8 Northumberland with our special allocated blue wrist bands, we descended downstairs to the Old Billiard Room and Annex, for champagne and canapes, non-alcoholic for myself of course, before moving upstairs for an amazing three-course dinner, with entertainment and dancing in the Ballroom.
The menu served on the evening was again, as I’m becoming accustomed to at 8 Northumberland, amazing, and included:
Scallop ‘saltimbocca’ wrapped in pancetta and sage, smoked cauliflower crush, glazed turnip, radish, feve, chicken jus, crispy skin
I opted for the Halloumi vegetarian option, delicious!
Slow roasted Aberdeen Angus beef fillet, porcini mushroom puree, charred ceps, confit new potatoes, sauteed purple kale, oxtail jus
Raspberry parfait, chocolate mousse, popping candy, raspberry jelly, chocolate demi-sphere, fresh raspberries
At 11.45pm, we made our way outside to watch the fireworks on the embankment, quite literally directly opposite and in prime view of the London Eye, and with no crowds! The fireworks are amazing when you see them on TV, but to see them live and up close, really is something else and incredibly special.
One fantastic thing to see at midnight was a group of police officers, arms linked, singing along to Old Land Syne!
Bacon rolls and more champagne was on offer on returning to the venue and everyone in the spirit of the New Year, either that or too much champagne by this point, had pretty much got up on the dance floor and remained there until the end at 2am.
It was a pretty amazing evening, and one the Moons will certainly remember for many years to come. If you’re looking for a way to spend your New Years Eve on 31st December 2016 then I highly recommend this year’s event, the theme is ‘The Enchanted Forest’ and you can visit the 8 Northumberland website for more information here.
Here’s to an amazing 2016! Until next time #eventprofs…
